5 Habits of Small Business Startups Online
Successful business owners, and successful startups all have a few things in common. They all work hard towards a successful launch with minimal problems, but what is it really that they have in common in terms of habits that ensures them success with their small business startup.
Wake Up Early
Doesn’t seem to difficult. Right?
The fact is that those “entrepreneurs” who wake up early, simply have a longer day. A longer day when starting a small business simply means more time to do what you need to do.
The extra time gives you an opportunity to speak to people, to find connections, to be social and engaging and to get your business moving towards the finish line of success.
Be Social
Who isn’t social these days. I think that everyone has their head glued to a computer or a smart phone. So what does “be social” really mean.
First you have social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google , Instagram, YouTube..etc Ensure that you have active profiles with your logo, with your website, with your message. If you have friends, follow them, and have them follow you. Build your own audience.
It is often recommended to see who your competitors like, or follow and do the same.
The key to social media is to be persistent and not give up.
Second part of “be social” is to get out there physically and be social and engaging. Host events, launch parties and have people excited and talking about it. Wait for the spark!
Manage Your Time
Time is what we all want more of. When it comes to starting a small business, your startup simply doesn’t allow you much time for anything other then your startup. So how do you free up time?
Speaking to many successful business owners, one habit that the most successful ones have is managing their time correctly.
If you are active online (a lot), don’t check your social media accounts, or your email account every time you get a message. To save time, check it once or twice per day. If you are seriously falling behind, bump the number of times per day. Those tweets and e-mail messages aren’t going away, and replying instantly doesn’t really do you justice (except eat up your time).
Aside from social media and checking your email, manage your time by scheduling everything in your calendar. Don’t do any tasks that are not in your calendar (unless emergency). Everything else, schedule for another time. This way you aren’t being pulled a thousand different ways each hour.
Donate
Donate? But i’m a startup with no money?!?!?!
Donate doesn’t always have to mean money. You can donate your skills, your time, money and even just your words sometimes.
Donating can help get your name out there, and all the big players do it often.
Consider it if your product/service is something that can be used to help someone else (maybe it is worth offering a free trial, a free demo, or donate the product/service) just to get out there,
Let’s say that you have a product that helps college students find used books, but you charge for the service. Consider getting in touch with low-income families, or education centres which could give you free publicity, in order to give your service away for free to those with low incomes. Just a thought.
Make It Easy
The most important habit that successful small business startups have in common is the need to make everything easy.
What does “make it easy” mean?
It can mean whatever you want it to mean.
Are you spending too much time doing something that you think can be done faster, better, easier? Figure out how to make it easy.
Is your time important? Don’t do small tasks that can be handed off to somebody else.
The great thing about starting a small business today, in 2016 is the ability to automate a lot of the work. At least online.
Think, social media automation, e-mail reply automation, website automation…etc
Make it easy!
